Paper chemicals, green technology, sewage problem

The paper industry is one of the top ten pillar manufacturing industries in China's national economy. According to the State Council's “12th Five-Year Plan for Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction”, the paper industry's planned emission reduction target is “10% reduction in chemical oxygen demand emissions and ammonia nitrogen emissions”. How the paper industry can accomplish this arduous task, and the paper chemicals industry, which has grown up with the paper industry, will grasp this historical opportunity. Yao Xianping, chairman of the China Paper Chemical Industry Association and director of the National Paper Chemical Engineering Technology Research Center, recently Received an interview with the reporter.

Yao Xianping told reporters that the papermaking process is a complex chemical and physical process. From pulping to papermaking, it is inseparable from the application of various papermaking energy-saving and environmental protection special chemicals. For example, in the pulping process, chemical techniques should be used to reduce the cooking time and the amount of alkali, to separate the black liquor from papermaking, to recover special products of organic polymers such as lignin, to develop safe and efficient new bleaching agents, etc.; In order to use clean high-efficiency retention aids and retention technology, the papermaking white water should be chemically and bio-technically treated to achieve clean emissions. Because the application of paper chemicals runs through the entire process of the papermaking process, the technological advancement of the former is decisive for the latter's clean production.

Yao Xianping said that the environmental predicament faced by the paper industry is precisely the platform for the development of paper chemicals. The “Twelfth Five-Year Plan” will become a golden opportunity for China's paper chemicals to achieve rapid and stable development.

Yao Xianping pointed out that although China's papermaking chemicals started late, they have developed rapidly. Especially during the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan” period, major products including modified starch, polyacrylamide, sizing agent, brightener, defoamer and deinking agent have been basically realized. As the papermaking chemicals play an important role in the paper industry to improve quality, transformation and upgrading, energy conservation and emission reduction, resource conservation, and development and application of high-grade paper and specialty papers, the emerging industry has attracted the attention of relevant state departments and listed them in the country. A list of industries, products and technologies that focus on development, and priority areas for priority areas for high-tech industrialization. Especially in recent years, in order to change the inherent image of high consumption, pollution and low efficiency in the paper industry, the development and application of green paper chemicals in the domestic paper chemicals research and development production center with the national paper chemicals engineering technology research center as the core Positive efforts have been made and a series of important results have been achieved.

The development and application of non-wood paper special chemicals was successfully implemented. The project consists of three special topics: non-wood fiber special reinforcement, straw filter paper retention aid and newsprint wet end special chemicals. It is jointly completed by Hangzhou Chemical Research Institute and Hangzhou Paper Friends Technology Co., Ltd. Using natural polymers (starch) as the basic raw material, the project team successfully developed green chemicals that can be applied to non-wood fibers and waste paper fibers with high impurity content and poor fiber quality, and developed automatic control. The green clean production process characterized by catalytic continuous powder pipeline reaction, no waste water is produced in the whole process, high reaction efficiency, stable quality, low production cost and obvious energy saving effect (average energy consumption is reduced by 5% to 15%). Widely promoted and applied in the domestic paper industry. The project has made outstanding contributions to promoting energy conservation and emission reduction and protecting forest resources in the industry. It has won the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award and the first prize of the original invention of China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association.

Another development and application technology of high-retaining surface sizing starch, which won the first prize of the Science and Technology Progress Award of the former China Petrochemical Association, can significantly improve the quality of paper and significantly reduce the pollution of papermaking wastewater, and has also been strongly welcomed by the market. At present, this new product has gradually replaced traditional products and is widely used in the industry.

“Science and technology innovation in the field of green paper chemicals has made great contributions to the promotion of green development of the paper industry, and will play a greater role in the future.” Yao Xianping said that although the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan” is a fast and stable papermaking chemical industry in China A major period of opportunity for development, but it must also be noted that the industry still faces many practical problems that need to be resolved. For the papermaking chemicals industry during the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" period of energy saving and emission reduction, he made the following recommendations:

First, we must focus on the development of scale, specialization, and serialization. Paper-making chemicals enterprises must develop from a small-scale, single-variety pattern to a large-scale, special-purpose, and serialized series, accelerate bigger and stronger, increase technological transformation, and form an industrial scale.

Second, efforts should be made to improve the capacity for independent innovation, continuously increase investment in science and technology, and accelerate the development of papermaking chemicals that are urgently needed in the papermaking industry. In combination with the national conditions of China's papermaking, it is especially necessary to speed up the development of paper chemicals that are urgently needed in the market, such as non-wood fiber special chemicals, recycled paper special chemicals, environmental protection special chemicals, and specialty paper special chemicals.

The third is to pay attention to the research and development of paper chemicals application technology and special equipment. Applied technology is a technology that is exchanged for high efficiency at a low cost. Papermaking chemical manufacturers in developed countries attach great importance to applied research. In this respect, compared with developed countries, there are still large gaps in China, which should be highly valued.

The fourth is to strengthen cooperation and exchanges at home and abroad. On the one hand, we must attach great importance to exchanges and cooperation with foreign counterparts, and promote the depth and breadth of cooperation to maximize the development level of China's paper chemical industry; on the other hand, the development of paper chemicals should pay attention to domestic chemical and papermaking. All-round cooperation between industry, academia and research in the two major industries.
